Calling all Cubbies

Last week Xandra celebrated the end of her first year of Cubbies (an Awana program for 3 & 4 year olds) with an awards ceremony. Our whole family was able to attend.

They started the evening singing songs for all the moms and dads. Xandra didn't sing, even though her teacher, Mrs. Mueschen, tried and tried to get her to sing along.

She did, however, smile very nicely for the camera, although the inept photographer was never able to get her beautiful smiles on film.

We got to meet Cubbie Bear, Luv E. Lamb and Ern E. Elephant, the characters from the stories in her book all year long.

Theia and Liyah ate dinner while they enjoyed the show (a sure fire way to keep them quiet).

Xandra received a bear for completing her book. We will attach it to her blue vest (pictured above) for next year. She also got a Cubbies T-shirt and two glow in the dark bracelets (VERY exciting!). She wore the bracelets to bed two nights in a row and fully enjoyed the glow-in-the dark fun.

The evening's program.

Xandra LOVED Cubbies this year. It was the highlight of every week for her. She loved everything about Awana: reading the book each week, memorizing the verses, making crafts, eating snack, watching the puppet show, wearing her Cubbies vest, and seeing her teachers. We love that she's learning to hide God's Word in her heart. We also love that the Awana program and the wonderful Cubbies teachers at Derwood have found ways to make it fun and exciting to learn about God. We're grateful for their weekly investment in kids like Xandra. We see that it really makes a difference in her young heart and life.

  1. Andrew and I both did Awanas when we were little. I can't wait for Madeline to be able to do it too :)
