Mrs. Smyth Goes to Washington

In mid-April, my good friend Christa came for a visit. Joe watched the girls and we were free to romp and play, doing girly, non-mommy things for the better part of a weekend.

After donuts and ice cream late into the night on Friday night, we woke to find three little girls anxious to meet Ms. Christa. They immediately found she was a softee, mother-type and conned her into reading book after book.

When book time was over we spent our day hopping from garage sale to garage sale, eating a yummy lunch, having pedicures, talking, talking, and talking, and replacing dinnertime with a simple slice of cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory.

Sunday morning we hung around the house, attempted to get my girls to smile for a picture (why do we even try?),

skipped church (a "friend" sent the bulletin home for me, they thought maybe I should read it since I had skipped church, and I assure you, he did NOT mean the announcements),

took the scooter for a spin,

and went downtown for a couple of hours to take in the sights.

One of the first things we saw was this Tulip Library (that's actually its name). They had over 70 varieties of tulips and most of them were beautiful.

We caught the sights at The Mall, including the Washington Monument, Capitol, WWII Memorial, and Lincoln and Jeffereson Memorials from a distance.

As expected, the weekend was big on fun and little on sleep. We also owe our dear husbands for being on "kid duty" all weekend (especially Christa's husband, who ended up with a child who had the flu! She knows when to be gone!) Thanks, Christa, for a super fun time, and thanks, Joey, for a much-appreciated break.
