As travelling with three small children is bound to be, our travels to the midwest for Christmas were full of adventure. After 2 hours of sleep, forgotten paperwork for lap held infants, a loooooong wait in line at the airport, a missed flight, two standby flights (one from Maryland and one from Chicago), we made it safely to Minneapolis.
We're pretty light travellers, too. That's 3 XL suitcases, 1 medium suitcase (there's another medium suitcase packed inside one of the XL's), 1 small suitcase, 1 backpack, 1 computer bag, 1 blankie bag, 1 toy bag, 3 carseats,
1 double stroller, 1 small food bag, 5 coats, plus hats & mittens, 3 blankies, 3 bears, 3 girls, 1 mommy (extra tired), 1 daddy (extra tired) and a partridge in a pear tree (okay, we left this at home, but I'm pretty sure no one would have noticed if we'd brought it!).
The last leg of the journey was a 10 hour drive (it's really just 8 hours, but in keeping with the theme of the day, we hit some ugly weather) in Joe's parents' minivan (stuffed to the gills, of course) to Trisha's parents' house in Lincoln, NE. Our heads hit the pillow at 2AM, just 22 hours after getting up from a night of 2 hours of sleep. Crazy, sleep-deprived travels aside, we were glad to be home. And in case you're wondering, I wouldn't recommend or agree to this itinerary for future travel.
Oh my word. You weren't kidding tonight when we talked about Disney and you said that going home was hard enough! I feel for you in this 2-hour sleep state. We drove to Arkansas one year and I had that feeling but it was just one kid and we were in the minivan not an airport. I don't know how you did it!
