School's in session. For us that means a room in our basement has become the school room, decorated with bright curtains, red chairs, a big table, maps and the alphabet on the wall. Xandra is a Kindergartener but around here, everyone gets in on the fun.
Each week we cover different topics. This week it's Thanksgiving and last week it was flags, voting and the military. It keeps things interesting and everyone is excited to see each week what we're studying. Here are some of our highlights:
Ants...fake ones on a log and real ones in a farm.
A short study on China that involved
homemade fortune cookies,
fortunes provided by Xandra,
with close supervision from Tikvah,
and a chinese feast of homemade pork fried rice and sweet and sour chicken
decorated with our very own chinese lantern.
Fresh homemade bread made by Xandra, with only a little help from me (it was delicious!),
a cake made with no recipe (I did provide a small amount of direction when she wanted to add 3 or 4 cups of baking powder),
it was tasty, but next time she says she'd leave out the raisins,
and a castle made with generous assistance by daddy, as we studied mideval times.
They even had a moat (red towel below) and a drawbridge.
Every guard tower needs a guard. Just ask Xandra, she can tell you all about castles, dukes and duchesses now, well, at least about as much as a Kindergartener should know.
It's not all fun and games for us during school, but most of it is fun. She (and the others) have been a real joy to teach and grow and learn with these last few months. I'm grateful for the opportunity and heart to explore the world with these little ones. We're blessed beyond measure to have them these few short years and I'm grateful to soak up these moments.
She baked her own bread and cake?? Go Xandra. I love all the homeschooling fun you've been having!
