A Day for Celebrating

Xandra's fourth birthday was one of my favorite celebrations with her thus far.  She clearly understood, for the first time, her birthday and all that entailed.  Making the day special was fun and easy.  We started with banana waffles for breakfast, eaten on the special day plate, of course.

We also made a trip to SAMS Club and met up with one of the girls' favorite people, Beth.  She had balloons (one for each girl) and a present for Xandra.  She also got to come home with us for the day and play and celebrate with the girls.

Xandra was far too excited to nap on her birthday.  She did enjoy some quiet time, but got up part way through naptime when it was clear she wasn't going to sleep.  I let her open one present from cousin Nick and Emma during naptime.

She was very excited to see silly bands inside and her and Beth played with them for a long time: sorting, organizing, putting them on, taking them off, making them talk, etc.

She also received this tiara making kit (complete with the paper tiaras, glue, and decorations).  She and Beth worked on a tiara for her and one for her bear, Arp.

She wore this tiara for most of the day after making it.  She even wore it to pick daddy up from jury duty.  The biggest glitch in our day was that jury duty went until 7:10PM that night.  It made for a late dinner of homemade pizza and milk.

I don't think anyone really minded once they tasted the milk (it was chocolate)!  As a part of turning four, Xandra got to try chocolate milk for the first time. It was a big hit and I've had many requests for more chocolate milk since her birthday.

Aliyah was happy at the birthday dinner, even though she didn't get to try chocolate milk.

After dinner we opened presents.  One of her gifts was this kitty that moves it's feet when you touch it.  She has very appropriately named the kitty movee since it moves all the time.

She also got some lace and trace animal shapes so she can sew like momma.

All the girls have enjoyed playing with them.  Later in the week as I was sewing and both Theia and Xandra sat down at their little blue table and sewed their animals for a considerable amount of time.

It seems no birthday at the Pull household is complete without hair accessories and sunglasses from the sisters.  We seem to be unable to keep track of both of these things for longer than a year, so Theia picked out some headbands (one is already broken) and a pair of Hello Kitty sunglasses for Xandra on her birthday.

There was a fair amount of jealousy on this birthday, too.  It was difficult for Theia to embrace the idea that she has to wait until January for her birthday.  I think holding movee made it better, though.  If you ask her now about her birthday, she will tell you that it is in January (although I'm confident she has no idea what that means).

We saved birthday cake for Sunday when some friends came for a barbecue, but I did make a special marshmallow chocolate chip bar cookie to finish off the evening.

Everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Happy, happy birthday porcupine!
